Make A Difference Day (Canada) is an initiative of the Philanthropic Athletes Foundation, a public foundation that is presently dormant.
The founder of the Philanthropic Athletes Foundation is Murray Levine, a Montreal resident, and long time fund raising activist.
The mission for which the foundation was originally formed, was to invite the participants of existing non-fund raising marathons, and similar endurance events, to raise funds for the charitable organizations of their choice.
The concept is now used in some major American, Canadian and British events, and close to $100 million/yr is raised.
